Big second quarter sends Carthage past Waynesville

Carthage put up 34 points in the second quarter on the way to a 55-7 win over Waynesville.

Carthage took a 7-7 tie lead into the second stanza before putting the game away from Waynesville with a 44-7 lead by the intermission. 

Carthage won the second half 14-0.

The Tigers ran for 301 yards and passed for 140 to total 441 yards of offense.

On the other side of the ball, Carthage’s defense limited Waynesville to 253 rushing yards and -6 passing yards.

QB Brady Carlton led all rushers with 111 yards and two touchdowns on eight carries. He also completed 5-of-6 passes for 126 yards and another touchdown.

WR Karson Murray had three receptions for 65 yards and two touchdowns, while WR Trent Yates hauled in three passes for 62 yards.

Jordan Brunnert and Brayden O’Dell each had sacks defensively for Carthage, while Brunnert and Jett Dalton led the way in tackles with 14 each. Brunnert had five for loss.
