CLASS 6 NO. 6 NIXA 55, CLASS 5 NO. 2 WEBB CITY 21

WEBB CITY, Mo. — Nixa held Webb City off the board in the second half as the Class 6 No. 5 Eagles cruised past the Class 5 No. 2 Cardinals in Week 2.

Dylan Rebura rushed 23 times for 212 yards and five touchdowns to Nixa (2-0), which accumulated 388 yards of offense on 36 plays. Rebura had two scores in the first quarter to keep pace with Webb City (1-1) before adding three more touchdowns in the second half, including two in the fourth quarter, to help the Eagles pull away as the defense pitched a shutout. 

Webb City, which totaled 314 yards on 66 plays, was led on offense by Jackson Lucas, who finished with 116 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 21 attempts.

Isaiah Tela had 12 rushing attempts for 100 yards for the Cardinals, while Andrew Elwell added six rushes for 29 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

The Cardinals are on the road in Week 3, taking on Kickapoo (0-2).

CLASS 6 NO. 10 JOPLIN 21, LEBANON 17

With Joplin trailing Lebanon and time dwindling in the fourth quarter, JHS quarterback Daniel Rose found TE John Jasper over the middle in the end zone for a touchdown with 25 seconds left to send the Eagles to a victory over the Yellowjackets.

Rose completed 14-of-22 passes for 157 yards and three touchdowns, while Toryn Jones carried the ball 22 times for 69 yards in the win.

Layne Royle caught four passes for 67 yards and a touchdown, while Collis Jones had four receptions for 50 yards and a score.

Defensively, Jumond Burrell had 17 total tackles, while Andrew Snider finished with 14. Snider also added a sack, while Burrell added an interception.

Joplin is back on the road in Week 3, traveling to No. 6 Nixa.

CLASS 5 NO. 5 CARTHAGE 42, OZARK 6

CARTHAGE, Mo. — Carthage had three players rush for more than 100 yards as the defense pitched a shutout for three quarters on the way to a comfortable win over Ozark in the home opener on Friday.

Carthage (2-0) finished the game with 402 rushing yards and another 55 yards through the air, while Ozark (1-1) was limited to 104 yards of total offense, 74 coming through the air.

Landyn Collins led the way  for CHS with 20 carries for 111 yards and two touchdowns, while Brady Carlton finished with 14 carries for 104 yards and two more touchdowns. Not to be outdone, Jackson Hettinger carried the ball just five times for 134 yards and he also added a touchdown.

Also getting in the end zone, Landon West had five carries for 46 yards and a score.

Carthage is back on the road with a matchup at Glendale in Week 3.

NEOSHO 40, KICKAPOO 27

NEOSHO, Mo. — For the first time since the 2018-19 season, Neosho is 2-0 to start the season. 

The Wildcats built a 20-0 lead in the first half and never looked back in a convincing win over the new Central Ozark Conference rival Chiefs.

Denver Welch did the heavy lifting out of the backfield for Neosho, carrying the ball 22 times for 163 yards and a touchdown.

Cade Spiva, who completed 14-of-28 passes for 179 yards, rushed 16 times for 96 yards and four touchdowns.

Bostyn Patterson caught three passes for 93 yards to lead the receiving corps for Neosho.

Neosho is back on the road in Week 3 for a matchup at Lebanon.

CLASS 3 NO. 2 SENECA 35, CLASS 3 NO. 5 MOUNT VERNON 14

SENECA, Mo. —  Third-ranked Seneca built a 20-14 lead by the start of the fourth quarter and outscored fifth-ranked Mount Vernon 15-0 down the stretch to pull away for the win on Friday.

Seneca ran 62 plays and gained 466 yards of offense to Mount Vernon’s 56 plays for 258 yards of offense. The Indians picked up 455 yards on the ground and won the turnover battle 3-1.

Seneca had a trio of players finish with more than 100 yards on the ground. Kaden Clouse led the way with 13 carries for 158 yards and a touchdown, while Roman Miller had 15 carries for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Brodie Probert added 15 carries for 111 yards and a pair of two-point conversions. 

Defensively, Miller had six tackles, while Blaze Graham had five tackles and an interception. Hagen Ginger and four tackles and forced a fumble. 

Seneca is at Class 4 No. 9 Nevada in Week 3.

NEW HEIGHTS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 62, OSCEOLA 32

OSCEOLA, Mo. — New Heights Christian Academy 26-14 at the half before rallying in a big way, outscoring Osceola 16-6 in the third and 32-0 in the fourth to earn a come-from-behind victory on Friday.

Logan Decker threw for 124 passing yards, while rushing for another 154 yards on the ground. He threw two touchdowns to Levi Durling and another to Cannon Miller, while rushing for an additional two scores on the ground.

Durling had 52 yards receiving to go along with his two receiving touchdowns. He also added to rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter of the win.

Miller also added a 38-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

New Heights Christian is at home against Orrick in Week 3.
