CARTHAGE, Mo. — In our Zimmer Marketing’s Week 4 Game of the Week sponsored by JL Mobile Truck and Trailer Repair, Class 6 No. 4 Nixa held Class 5 fourth-ranked Carthage scoreless for three quarters on the way to the Central Ozark Conference win on Friday.
The loss is the first of the season for the Tigers.
Nixa took a 20-0 lead into halftime before going into the fourth quarter on top 27-0.
Nixa gained 440 yards of offense in the win, while Carthage was limited to 215 yards of offense. The Eagles won the turnover battle 2-0.
Carthage Landyn Collins picked up 97 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Brady Carlton gained 87 yards on 19 carries on the ground.
Nate Norbury led the defense with 13 total tackles (nine solo), while Jett Dalton finished with 11 total (six solo) and Braxton Ralston had 10 total (five solo).
JOPLIN 45, GLENDALE 21
Joplin bounced back from its first loss of the season in Week 3 in a big way, rolling through Glendale for a COC win.
The Eagles (3-1) took a 7-0 lead into the second period before stretching the lead to three scores by the intermission and pulling away in the second half.
Toryn Jones set the pace with 202 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Joplin. Davin Thomas carried the ball six times for 91 yards and hauled in two passes for 13 yards and a touchdown. Dominica Leesman completed 9-of-19 passes for 162 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Jumond Burrell had two receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown, adding a rushing touchdown as well. Collis Jones caught one pass for a 51-yard touchdown.
Jariah Clark had 13 tackles, 12 solo, while David Bhend had 11 tackles, 10 solo. Josiah Hazlewood had 2.5 sacks, while Thomas, Burrells and Jones each had interceptions in the win.
NEOSHO 42, WAYNESVILLE 20
NEOSHO, Mo. — Neosho continued its hot start to the season with a home win over Waynesville on Friday.
The Wildcats improved to 4-0 with the victory.
Neosho jumped all over Waynesville, building a 14-0 lead after the first quarter before taking a 28-7 advantage into the intermission and cruising in the second half.
In the victory, Cade Spiva completed 17-of-25 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns and added 34 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Wildcats, while Denver Welch rushed 11 times for 105 yards and three touchdowns.
Bostyn Patterson caught five passes for 92 yards and a score, while Hudson Williams added five receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Brody Crane led all players with 18 total tackles, 13 solo, while Jaxon Ertel and Colby McGehee each had 10 tackles in the win. Ertel added a blocked punt
CARL JUNCTION 38, ROGERSVILLE 13
ROGERSVILLE, Mo. — Carl Junction built a two-score lead by halftime and blanked Rogersville in the second half on the way to an Ozark Mountain Conference win on Friday.
Carl Junction outgained Rogersville 421 yards to 357 yards, rushing for 313 yards in the win. The Bulldogs rushed for 313 yards in the win and won the turnover battle 2-1.
Mason Gilbert completed 7-of-12 passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns, while Marcus Lopez-Durman had 21 carries for 154 yards and a touchdown.
Tony Stewart rushed seven times for 100 yards and a score, while Ryder Pyles and Jett Mills each caught 24-yard touchdown passes for Carl Junction.
Stewart added 10 total tackles (seven solo) on defense. Ony Mondestin had nine total tackles (five solo) and added a fumble recovery of 19 yards for a defensive touchdown. Mills added an interception.
NEW HEIGHTS CHRISTIAN 72, LIBERAL 14
New Heights Christian put it all over Liberal in a convincing win in 8-man action.
The Cougars scored 30 points in the first quarter, keeping the Bulldogs off the scoreboard in the process, and took a 44-14 lead into the intermission. New Heights Christian outscored Liberal 28-0 in the second half.
Levi Durling carried the ball just 11 times but still rushed for 173 yards and four touchdowns to go along with three 2-point conversions.
Logan Decker threw for 159 yards and two touchdowns, while running six times for 85 yards and two more touchdowns.
Cannon Miller caught two passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns.
SENECA 64, MONETT 14
SENECA, Mo. — Class 3 second-ranked Seneca outscored Monett 50-0 in the first half on the way to a runway victory over the Cubs.
The Indians rushed for 328 yards in the win, while Monett passed for 295 yards in the loss. The Cubs also turned the ball over four times to Seneca’s one.
The Indians scored seven touchdowns in the first half, with three of them coming on the defensive end. Kye Adams had a pick-6 touchdown in the first quarter, while Nolan Napier and Drew Sherwood returned interceptions for touchdowns in the second quarter.
Kaden Clouse added a 55-yard rushing touchdown in the opening stanza and Roman Miller scored three times in the second quarter, including a 22-yard gallop.
Clouse rushed for 97 yards on eight carries, while Hunter Hanes carried the ball seven times for 80 yards and a score. Miller had 46 yards and three scores on seven carries, while Brant Laughlin had six rushes for 38 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, Hanes had nine total tackles, six solo, to lead the Indians on defense.
