Carthage track girls win COC West; Webb City boys tie for first

JOPLIN, Mo. — The Central Ozark Conference (COC) track meet showcased fierce competition in the West Division meet at JKF Stadium in Springfield with standout performances from the boys and girls teams of Joplin, Webb City, Carthage and Neosho. 

GIRLS HIGHLIGHTS

The Carthage girls team earned first place with 173 points, while Webb City finished in second place with 165.5 points. Joplin scored 139

In the girls’ high jump, Webb City’s Chase Stilley cleared 1.57m to take first, followed by Carthage’s Riley Cochran at 1.52m, and Joplin’s Payton Cunningham at 1.47m. 

The pole vault saw Joplin’s Maria Loum and Carthage’s Cochran tie for second at 2.74m, just behind Republic’s Sienna Blankenship (2.89m). 

In the long jump, Joplin’s Kendall Nyarango led with 5.22m, Carthage’s London Shepherd took second at 5.18m, and Webb City’s Stilley placed third with 5.11m.

Carthage dominated the triple jump, with Shepherd (10.79m) and Ada Roughton (10.59m) securing first and third, while Webb City’s Jaylee VanBecelaere took second at 10.76m.

In the discus throw, Carthage’s Chasity Straw threw 38.65m for first, followed by teammate Olivia Jones (35.80m), and Webb City’s Kaelyn Maxwell (35.67m). The shot put mirrored this, with Straw (11.64m) and Carthage’s Karlie Nichols (11.41m) in the top two, and Webb City’s Jocelyn Maxwell third at 10.48m.

BOYS HIGHLIGHTS

Webb City and Willard tied for first place with 142 points each. Joplin took third with 133, while Neosho finished with 121. Carthage had 96 points as a team.

The boys’ high jump saw Joplin’s Frederick Taylor and Webb City’s Ryan Reid Jr tie for second at 1.82m, behind Willard’s Tre Green (1.87m). 

In the pole vault, Neosho’s Noah Soriano and Republic’s Daniel Fair tied for first at 3.96m, with Webb City’s Wyatt Bonnow third at 3.81m. 

The long jump featured Joplin’s Aiden Scourten leading at 6.56m, Carthage’s Malachi Dougless in second with 6.13m, and Joplin’s Tucker Martin third at 6.12m.

The triple jump was a Joplin sweep, with Scourten (13.92m), Martin (13.50m), and Republic’s Keiran Govan (13.72m) taking the top three spots. In the discus throw, Joplin’s Brennen Washington (46.86m) and Neil Barstow (46.42m) secured second and third behind Republic’s Ekene Chukwu (48.41m). 

The shot put saw Webb City’s Louden Bolinger heave 15.97m for first, teammate Eric Lathan at 15.00m for second, and Joplin’s Barstow third with 14.98m.
