JASPER, MO — The MSHSAA Class 1 District 5 Track and Field Meet had several strong showings from local student-athletes in both the individual and team aspects.
McAuley Catholic and Thomas Jefferson emerged as the boys' and girls' team champions, respectively.
McAuley Catholic boys dominates team standings
McAuley Catholic secured the boys' team title with an impressive 118 points, outpacing Lockwood High School (88 points) and Blue Eye High School (83 points). Thomas Jefferson finished fourth with 82 points, while Jasper High School placed sixth with 46 points.
In the 400-meter dash, Jasper’s Lincoln Moss took first with a blazing 52.70, followed closely by McAuley’s Alex Bohachick (52.99) and Thomas Jefferson’s Jack Twiss (53.76), showcasing the strength of local schools in this event.
The 800 saw McAuley’s Michael Parrigon (2:01.65) and Franklin Veer (2:03.29) claim first and second, with Thomas Jefferson’s Liam Cook (2:05.41) rounding out the top four.
Parrigon continued his dominance in the 1600, finishing first at 4:37.82, while Thomas Jefferson’s Will Twiss (4:39.60) and Braden Honeywell-Lynch (4:43.16) secured second and third.
The 3200-meter run mirrored this success, with Twiss (10:05.20) and Honeywell-Lynch (10:32.04) taking first and third, and McAuley’s Veer earning second (10:26.28).
McAuley’s relay teams also shone, winning the 4x400-meter relay (3:37.29) and the 4x800-meter relay (8:20.64).
Thomas Jefferson’s 4x400 team took second (3:37.65), and their 4x200-meter relay squad earned third (1:37.15). Jasper’s 4x800-meter relay team finished third (9:16.33), bolstered by Leland Harris’s fourth-place finish in the 3200-meter run (10:48.65).
In field events, Jasper’s Gaige Mitchell claimed first in the discus throw (44.20m), and McAuley’s Roscoe Miller took second in the javelin throw (47.18m).
Thomas Jefferson girls take team crown
Thomas Jefferson clinched the girls’ team title with 95 points, edging out Lockwood High School (85 points) and Jasper High School (75 points).
Jasper’s Chloe Storm and Crystal Smith were standouts. Storm won the 100-meter dash (13.19), 200-meter dash (27.03) and the 400-meter dash (1:02.17). Smith earned victories in the 100-meter hurdles (14.55) as well the high jump (1.57m) and long jump (5.36m), tying for the top mark in the high jump with Greenwood’s Miila Chapman. Smith also added a first-place finish in the javelin (38.62m).
Thomas Jefferson’s Macie Shifferd dominated distance events, winning the 1600-meter run (5:54.52) and 3200-meter run (12:48.67) while taking second in the 800-meter run (2:38.20).
The 4x100-meter relay team from Thomas Jefferson secured first (55.01), and their 4x200-meter and 4x400-meter relay squads earned second (1:55.83) and third (4:38.15), respectively.
McAuley’s Olivia Parrigon won the 800-meter run (2:30.66), and Ellie Bohachick took third in the 400-meter dash (1:07.79). The McAuley 4x800-meter relay team finished third (11:10.68), contributing valuable points.
In field events, Thomas Jefferson’s Lannah Grigg won the discus throw (34.34m) and placed eighth in the shot put (8.55m).
