Carthage second baseman Jordan Brunnert and Jasper track and field athlete Crystal Smith have been named the Zimmer Marketing Male and Female Athletes of the Week brought to by JL Mobile Truck and Trailer Repair.
Brunnert, a junior, had a strong week for Carthage in its four-game stretch. He finished the week hitting 6-for-16 (.375), drove in three and scored three times and smacked a home run.
“Jordan has worked very hard over the course of the season,” Carthage coach Kevin Burgi said. “He is a guy that hits a lot and does everything he can to compete in the box. The success he had over the week is no surprise to anyone on the coaching staff.”
Smith, a senior, had an outstanding performance at the Class 1 District 5 track meet, earning herself four first-place finishes. She took first in the 100-meter hurdles (14.55), the high jump (1.55m), the long jump (5.36m) and the javelin (38.61).
Coaches can nominate students for athletes of the week by emailing the player’s name, sport and stats/accolades to sports@zrimarketing.com.
