Carthage, Joplin, Neosho and Webb City track advance athletes

Carthage, Joplin, Neosho and Webb City track and field all had several athletes with strong showings at the MSHSAA Class 5 District 6 Track Meet.

BOYS HIGHLIGHTS

In the boys’ 100-meter dash, Joplin’s Davin Thomas led the local contingent with a strong fourth-place finish (11.00 seconds), just behind Nixa’s Randy Flint (10.69), Willard’s Landen Johnson (10.84), and Republic’s Gavin Lawhon (10.98). 

The 400-meter dash saw Neosho dominate, with Isaiah Keezer taking first (49.51) and Phoenix Rhatigan earning third (50.18), sandwiching Willard’s Landen Johnson (50.04). 

Carthage’s Henry Laytham claimed victory in the 800-meter run (1:57.03), edging out Webb City’s Noah Lankard (1:57.06), who took second. 

In the 300-meter hurdles, Joplin’s Avarus Kuhn-Wofford surged to first (38.65), followed by teammate Isaiah Thom in second (40.42). Carthage’s Brody Jackson secured third (40.65), with Republic’s William Payne taking fourth (40.75). 

The 4x400-meter relay saw Neosho (3:25.35) and Carthage (3:27.82) finish third and fourth, respectively, behind Raymore-Peculiar (3:21.79) and Nixa (3:21.87). In the 4x800-meter relay, Webb City claimed gold (8:16.93), with Carthage finishing fifth (8:45.76).

In field events, Carthage’s Malachi Dougless took fourth in the long jump (6.15m), while Joplin’s Aiden Scourten won the triple jump (13.46m), followed by Carthage’s Jackson Hettinger (12.67m, third) and Kruz Castor (12.57m, fourth). 

Neosho’s Noah Soriano earned third in the pole vault (4.24m), and Everson Tomlinson grabbed fourth in the shot put (15.72m). Joplin’s Brennen Washington (48.82m, third) and Neil Barstow (46.74m, fourth) excelled in the discus.

GIRLS HIGHLIGHTS

On the girls’ side, Joplin’s Brylee Strickland was strong in the 200-meter dash, taking second (25.15) behind Raymore-Peculiar’s Kynah Simmons (25.09).

The 400-meter dash featured Joplin’s Strickland (58.90, second) and Nalyjah Madison (1:00.02, third), with Neosho’s Ashlyn Stevens taking fourth (1:00.98). Republic’s Reese Finley won the event (57.59). 

Webb City’s Brooke Hedger dominated the 800-meter run (2:15.18) and 1600-meter run (5:08.70), while teammate Olivia Klotz took fourth in the 800 (2:24.53). Carthage’s Maggie Boyd placed fifth (2:27.77). 

In the 3200-meter run, Joplin’s Ava Doll claimed first (11:12.46), followed by Republic’s Gracie Troester (12:03.93, second), and Webb City’s Emma McKinzie (12:04.40, third) and Brooke Collard (12:04.51, fourth).

In the 300-meter hurdles, Carthage’s Elsie Willis earned third (49.53), and Joplin’s Micah Holden took fourth (49.72). Joplin also won the 4x200-meter relay (1:42.85) and 4x400-meter relay (4:01.31), with Webb City (4:06.34, second) and Carthage (4:11.20, fourth) close behind. In the 4x800-meter relay, Webb City (10:10.18, second), Carthage (10:13.88, third), and Joplin (10:37.15, fourth) all placed in the top four.

In field events, Webb City’s Chase Stilley won the high jump (1.55m), with Carthage’s Riley Cochran (1.5m, second) and Neosho’s Lauren Sullivan (1.5m, second) tying for second, and Webb City’s Selah Shewmake taking fourth (1.5m). 

Carthage’s London Shepherd (10.77m, second) and Neosho’s Kaylin Soule (10.59m, fourth) excelled in the triple jump. 

In the shot put, Carthage’s Chasity Straw (11.99m, second) and Karlie Nichols (11.3m, fourth) stood out, while Straw also took second in the discus (35.51m). 

Webb City’s Adalyn Maxwell placed fourth in the discus (34.11m).
