Seneca, Lamar, other area schools compete at Class 3 track meet

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Class 3 State Track and Field Championships saw standout performances from athletes representing Seneca, Lamar, Mount Vernon, and East Newton. 

Lamar’s Strength in Throws and Jumps

In the boys’ discus, senior Terren Williams claimed the gold with an impressive throw of 50.67m, while sophomore Logan Martin secured fifth place with a 47.07m toss. Martin also excelled in the shot put, earning third place with a throw of 17.07m.

In the pole vault, junior Carson Sturgell cleared 4.27m to take fourth. In the boys’ long jump, junior Preston Heins grabbed a bronze with a leap of 6.65m, adding to Lamar’s haul. On the girls’ side, sophomore Brooklyn Livingston competed in the 800m, finishing 15th with a time of 2:40.79, while junior Ana Ngugi placed 15th in the discus with a throw of 29.39m.

Seneca’s Field Event Standouts

In the boys’ discus, junior Brock Pendergraft threw 44.48m to finish 10th, and in the javelin, he placed 15th with a 41.78m effort. 

In the boys’ long jump, senior Hunter Hanes and junior Grant Landers both hit 6.05m, tying for 15th.

On the girls’ side, senior Hadley Hilburn tied for eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.55m, and the Seneca girls’ 4x400m relay team earned eighth place with a time of 4:14.54.

Mount Vernon’s Javelin and Distance Highlights

Mount Vernon High School celebrated a standout performance in the boys’ javelin, where senior Hunter Dawson threw 55.7m to secure third place. Dawson also competed in the shot put, finishing 12th with a 14.22m throw.

In the girls’ 800m, senior Victoria Esquivel and sophomore Melanie Harter represented Mount Vernon, finishing 14th (2:37.74) and 16th (2:45.48), respectively.

East Newton’s Grit in Relays and Throws

In the boys’ 300m hurdles, junior River Enlow ran a strong 41.78 to finish 10th in the prelims. The boys’ 4x400m relay team placed 11th with a time of 3:29.71, showing their teamwork and speed. 

On the girls’ side, senior Brooke White threw 11.13m in the shot put to claim fourth place, while junior Kaylea Holmes finished 10th with a 9.93m toss. 

In the 800m, junior Mason Silva matched El Dorado Springs’ Wyatt Klaiber with a time of 2:01.83, tying for 14th.
