WEBB CITY, Mo. — Webb City’s Andrew Young led the 11th inning off with a single before ultimately coming around to score on a wild pitch later in the frame to send the Cardinals to a 4-3 walk-off win over the Pirates in Game 1 of the Class 5 quarterfinal round at Chuck Barnes Field on Friday.
Platte County opened the game with three runs in the first inning to take control.
Webb City chipped away with a run in the third when Young drove in a run with a single. Young later tripled to right field in the seventh, driving in two runs to tie the game at 3-3.
Young finished the game with three hits, two RBI and a run scored. Mason Williams had two hits and drew a walk for the Cardinals.
Landon Fletcher started for Webb City and took a no-decision after allowing three runs on five hits and six strikeouts over eight innings. Tate Lewis pitched 2 1/3 scoreless relief innings, striking out three.
Chayse Denton earned the win in relief, pitching 2/3 of an inning.
Wes Chiddix took the loss in relief after allowing one hit and walking four in one inning.
Webb City and Platte County square up for the second game of a best-two-out-of-three series at 11 a.m. Saturday.
