Carl Junction running back Marcus Lopez-Durman and Joplin cross country runner Ava Doll have been chosen as this week’s Zimmer Marketing’s Male and Female Athletes of the Week brought to you by JL Mobile Truck and Trailer Repair.
Lopez-Durman had a game to remember against Rogersville in the district semifinals last week. He handled 44 carries and ran for 324 yards and five touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs on offense. Lopez-Durman’s night was highlighted by a 41-yard touchdown run and 34-yard rushing score in the second quarter.
It was a storybook ending to Ava Doll’s cross country career at Joplin High School. In just her second season as a cross country runner, Doll reached the peak of the mountain last Saturday when she won the Class 5 state title after crossing the finish line in first in a time of 17 minutes, 32.45 seconds at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri. She finished with an 18-second lead.
