INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — The Joplin High School boys golf team traveled to Winterstone Golf Course on Tuesday and turned in a competitive team performance, carding a combined score of 374.
Sophomore Toby Ipsen led the Eagles with a strong round of 84, pacing the lineup on the challenging layout north of Interstate 70 in Independence. Kai Benfield followed closely with a 91, while Evan Iseli posted a 97.
Rounding out the scoring five were Jordan Bozarth with a 102 and Vinnie Smith at 103. The team total reflects the best four scores from the group, as is standard in high school golf competition.
The Eagles showed consistency across the top of the order, with four players breaking 105. Ipsen’s 84 stood out as the low score of the day for Joplin, providing a steady anchor for the squad.
Winterstone Golf Course, known for its Ozarks-like terrain and rolling fairways carved from a former limestone mine area, provided a solid test for the visiting team from southwest Missouri.
Joplin will look to build on this effort as the season progresses, with several key meets still on the schedule. The team returns to action in the coming weeks with opportunities to improve their scoring depth.
