Seneca dominates Bordertown Relays as local schools shine at home

SENECA, Mo. — Hosting the Bordertown Relays on Monday at the Seneca Schools Athletic Complex, Seneca High School athletes turned in a commanding performance, winning multiple individual events and sweeping the boys’ relays while New Heights Christian and Thomas Jefferson delivered strong showings in several field and track events.

Seneca’s speed was on full display from the opening sprints. Senior Noah Mittag took first in the 100-meter dash in 11.57 seconds and followed with a victory in the 200-meter dash in 23.16 seconds. Teammate Aiden Crane (11th grade) placed second in the 100 (11.52) while Boston Probert (10th grade) added fourth in the 100 and seventh in the 200. Senior Blaze Graham contributed eighth in the 100 and ninth in the 200, and Brodie Probert (12th grade) placed sixth in the 200.

In the 400-meter dash, Easton Hanes (11th grade) finished second in 53.80 seconds, with Boston Probert taking fourth. Seneca’s distance runners also competed well: freshman Gabe Eckert placed fourth in the 800 (2:25.20) and seventh in the 1,600 (5:31.96), while sophomore Brycen McKee took fifth in the 800 (2:28.91), eighth in the 1,600 (5:38.83), and sixth in the 3,200 (13:09.03).

The Indians’ relay teams were untouchable. Seneca won the 4x100-meter relay in 44.00 seconds, the 4x200 in 1:31.90, and the 4x400 in 3:40.79. The squad placed second in the 4x800 (9:51.54).

Seneca athletes also excelled in the field events. Senior Hunter Hanes won the long jump with a leap of 6.33 meters and placed third in the triple jump (12.07m). Easton Hanes captured first in the triple jump (12.88m). In the throws, senior Brock Pendergraft had an outstanding day, winning both the shot put (14.27m) and javelin (48.15m) while finishing second in discus (41.68m). Jude King (12th grade) added fifth in discus (35.37m) and sixth in javelin (39.33m), and Kylon Davidson (10th grade) placed second in javelin (45.55m).

New Heights Christian posted several standout individual performances. Senior Derek Bowman placed sixth in the 100 (11.96), fourth in the 200 (24.11), and second in the 300-meter hurdles (42.27). He also took second in the long jump (6.13m). Freshman Grayson Crumrine placed eighth in the 800 (2:33.06), while Zach Hunter took ninth in the 800 (2:33.75) and 15th in long jump. The New Heights 4x800 relay team finished fifth overall.

Thomas Jefferson showed depth across multiple events despite the smaller squad. The Cavaliers placed fourth in the 4x100 relay (49.26), third in the 4x200 (1:43.02), and third in the 4x400 (4:23.26). Freshman Brecken Wadell recorded 11th in the 100 (12.81) and 16th in the 200 (26.45), while Tristan Wadell placed 17th in the 100 and 18th in the 200. Sam Goodhue (9th grade) took 12th in the 200 (25.91) and eighth in high jump (1.58m). In the jumps, Roman Brake (12th grade) placed seventh in long jump (5.40m) and seventh in triple jump (11.47m). Throwers included Anthony Terry (ninth in discus, 30.85m) and Yousuf Mokhtar (11th in shot put, 10.83m).

Seneca girls claim multiple titles at Bordertown Relays as Thomas Jefferson and New Heights compete strongly
SENECA, Mo. — Seneca’s girls track and field team turned in a dominant performance Monday at the Bordertown Relays, winning key individual events and two of the three relays while Thomas Jefferson and New Heights Christian delivered solid contributions across sprints, distance, and field events.

Seneca’s senior Savannah Johnson led the way in the sprints, finishing first in the 100-meter dash in 13.51 seconds and third in the 200 (28.12). Teammate Jacie Bard (11th grade) placed fifth in the 100 (13.88) and fourth in the 200 (29.19). In the 400-meter dash, senior Anna Adkins took second (1:03.57) while also winning the high jump with a clearance of 1.52 meters. Sophomore Hadley Hilburn placed second in high jump (1.47m) and fourth in long jump (4.69m).

The Indians swept the relays they entered, winning the 4x200-meter relay in 1:51.81 and the 4x400 in 4:20.48. Seneca’s distance runners also contributed, with freshman Nicole Schmohe placing sixth in the 1,600 (6:48.56) and 12th in the 800 (3:13.99). In the throws, Jada Pendergraft (11th grade) took fourth in discus (23.46m) and sixth in javelin (17.38m), while Kordy Hancock placed sixth in shot put (8.29m) and second in javelin (29.13m).

Thomas Jefferson had one of its strongest showings of the day in the 400-meter dash, where junior Esther Yang captured first place in 1:02.99. The Cavaliers also excelled in the relays, winning the 4x100 in 53.51 seconds and placing third in both the 4x200 (1:54.93) and 4x400 (4:29.79).

In the sprints, Sara Maksoud (9th grade) placed eighth in the 100 (14.27) and fifth in the 200 (29.81), while Aubrey Freeborg (9th grade) took seventh in the 200 (30.10) and Emmanuelle 

Sweeny (11th grade) placed eighth (30.13). Distance runners shined as well: junior Kirra Moser finished second in the 800 (2:40.15), freshman Morgan Shifferd placed fourth in the 1,600 (6:21.53) and ninth in the 800 (3:01.71), and Abigail Riley (11th grade) took seventh in the 1,600 (6:49.56) and 11th in the 800 (3:04.42). In the jumps, Anna Hiebert (10th grade) tied for fifth in high jump (1.37m) and placed third in long jump (4.86m).

New Heights Christian had limited entries but posted competitive marks in the distance events. Freshman Vivian Lackey placed eighth in the 800 (3:01.36), and junior Shiloh Castle took 14th (3:18.78). In the triple jump, Valerie Jackson (9th grade) placed sixth with a leap of 8.03 meters.
