NEOSHO, Mo. — A squandered set point in the opening frame slipped away from Neosho on Tuesday night, spiraling into a straight-set sweep (24-26, 19-25, 16-25) against visiting Cassville.
Neosho traded punches with Cassville from the opening whistle, leaning heavily on its height at the net to survive the first frame. The front row came up big late, stuffing back-to-back attacks to pull Neosho even at 24-24.
The finish never came.
Cassville absorbed the hits, scrambled through an extended rally to retake the lead, and dropped an uncontested ace onto the floor to close out the set, 26-24.
That final point shifted the entire night. Neosho never regained its footing, unraveling over the next two sets as passing broke down and transition defense lagged. Cassville pulled away midway through the second frame for a 25-19 win, then buried Neosho early in the third to take it 25-16.
Neosho has a chance to right the ship on Sept. 3 when it hosts the Gentry Pioneers.
