Webb City put on a 48-minute defensive clinic to blank Willard on Friday night, while Carthage quarterback Slade Stiffler ripped through Joplin's front seven and Seneca handed Nevada its first loss of the season.
Across town, New Heights Christian Academy went dark after roster shortages left the Cougars without enough eligible players to suit up, wiping their matchup off the schedule.
Webb City 49, Willard 0
Webb City went into Willard and suffocated the host Tigers from the opening drive, grinding out a 49-0 shutout built entirely in the trenches.
The Cardinals controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The defensive unit blew up backfields, eliminated outside runs, and never let Willard sniff the red zone. On offense, the Cardinals matched their defensive stops with quick strikes and clock-eating drives, maintaining their season-long scoring pace.
Carthage 42, Joplin 14
Slade Stiffler needed just one possession to dictate terms to Joplin, breaking loose on a 19-yard touchdown scramble to the pylon on Carthage's opening drive. Joplin never caught up.
Stiffler piled up three rushing scores, gouging the Eagles' front with designed keepers and timely cutbacks. Carthage's defense made sure that lead held. Linebacker Brodie Johnson, paired with Jett Dalton and Brady Garren, lived in Joplin's backfield, collapsing the pocket around quarterback Trenton McCadney and stalling every sustained Joplin drive before it hit mid-field.
Seneca 37, Nevada 16
Seneca rode a physical ground attack and opportunism to Nevada, dealing the Tigers a 37-16 defeat—their first loss of the year.
The Indians' front seven blew the game open before the break. Seneca pounced on short-field turnovers and turned them directly into points, then pounded out two long scoring marches in the second quarter to build a two-possession cushion Nevada could not erase.
Branson 14, Carl Junction 7
Points were scarce at Carl Junction, where Branson’s defense stood up when it mattered most to secure a 14-7 road win. The Pirates shut the door on Carl Junction's final two fourth-quarter drives to protect their seven-point margin until the clock expired.
Numbers Crunch Idles New Heights
The lights stayed off for New Heights Christian Academy on Friday.
School officials confirmed the Cougars were forced to cancel their scheduled contest after injuries and roster attrition left the program short of the minimum number of healthy players required to safely take the field. Team leadership is evaluating week-to-week roster numbers before determining the status of next week's game.
