BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. — St. Mary’s Colgan leaned on a dominant service game and timely net play to sweep host Baxter Springs in straight sets Tuesday, taking the match 25-20, 25-12.
The Lady Panthers set the tone right out of the gate. Raigen Crager opened the first set with back-to-back service aces, handing Colgan a quick 3-0 cushion.
Baxter Springs answered with a punch of its own. Kadence Underhill drove a hard kill to the hardwood to tie the opener at 6-6, and Presley Crotts followed with a block at the net to push the Lady Lions in front, 7-6.
The lead didn't last.
Colgan’s Izzy Coomes broke through the block with a cross-court kill to shift momentum back to the Lady Panthers. From there, Colgan seized control of the net. Katie Paulie hammered home the set-clinching kill, putting Colgan on top 25-20.
The second set belonged entirely to the Lady Panthers. Colgan cleaned up its ball control, kept Baxter Springs out of system, and ran away with a 25-12 rout to close out the sweep.
