JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin High School volleyball outlasted Central Ozark Conference rival Neosho in a five-set slugfest Thursday night, leaning on late-match composure to protect its home court.
The victory nudges the Eagles’ record to 14-9-3 as postseason positioning begins to take center stage.
Neither side gave much ground through the opening frames. Joplin took punch after punch from a physical Neosho squad, trading long rallies and sideline momentum swings that pushed the contest to a decisive fifth set.
In the race to 15, the Eagles found the extra gear.
Joplin tightened its back-row defense, cut down on service errors, and converted out-of-system balls into clean transition points. When Neosho pressed late, Joplin’s block held the line at the net to seal the match.
The Eagles carry the momentum of the five-set win into tournament play this weekend
