REPUBLIC, Mo. — Joplin high school softball capitalized on crucial defensive miscues late Wednesday evening to secure a hard-fought 6–3 road victory over the Republic Lady Tigers.
The contest remained tightly contested through the middle frames. Facing an early two-run deficit, Republic mounted a spirited comeback in front of their home crowd, clawing back to level the score at 3–3 by the bottom of the fifth inning.
That deadlock, however, did not last long. Joplin seized complete control in the top of the sixth, breaking through with three decisive runs to surge ahead for good.
Fielding miscues proved to be the Lady Tigers' undoing down the stretch. Republic committed seven errors on the night, handing Joplin three unearned runs that provided the winning margin as the visitors closed out the 6–3 victory on October 7.
