Late Scores, a 99-Yard Drive, and a 63-Point Shutout Highlight Wild Friday in the COC

Central Ozark Conference contenders delivered a night of high-stakes drama, textbook blowouts, and methodical dominance Friday, headlined by Neosho’s homecoming shootout win and a decisive top-five statement by Republic.

Neosho 42, Joplin 35

Neosho gave its homecoming crowd a thriller, leaning on late-game offensive firepower to outlast the Joplin Eagles 42-35.

Neither defense found many answers in a back-and-forth contest, but the Wildcats produced when it mattered most. Neosho’s offense answered Joplin’s late pushes down the stretch, punching in the decisive scores to hold on for a seven-point conference victory.

Carthage 63, Willard 0

Carthage turned its own homecoming into a wire-to-wire rout, crushing Willard 63-0 behind an immediate, relentless first-half ambush.

The tone was set on Willard's opening drive. Tigers defensive back Tate Nicholls intercepted a tipped pass from Willard quarterback Kaden Snyder, nearly taking it back to the end zone. Nicholls kept the pressure on later in the half with a long punt return deep into Willard territory.

When Carthage took over on offense, the fireworks started instantly:

  • Screen to the house: On Carthage's very first snap from scrimmage, Jet Dalton caught a screen pass, broke multiple tackles, and dragged a Willard defender across the goal line.

  • Special teams surprise: Carthage executed a surprise onside kick immediately following Dalton's score, recovering the ball to retain possession.

  • Quick-strike sweep: Dominic Metlac capitalized on the extra possession moments later, taking a jet sweep into the end zone to push the early lead out of reach.

Republic 33, Webb City 14

Fourth-ranked Republic seized control of the Class 5 playoff picture, suffocating No. 5 Webb City 33-14 in a battle of top-five heavyweights.

Republic did it by playing keep-away. The Tigers held the football for 31 minutes and 9 seconds, limiting Webb City’s offense to just 16 minutes and 51 seconds on the field.

After a scoreless opening frame, Republic launched the defining sequence of the game: a grueling 20-play, 99-yard drive that chewed up the clock and wore down Webb City's front. Keiran Govan capped the marathon march with a 6-yard touchdown run, breaking the tie and establishing a physical dominance Republic never surrendered.
