COLUMBIA, Mo. — Seneca High School head football coach Cody Hilburn has been named the Missouri High School Football Coach of the Year by the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) and the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), the organizations announced Monday.
The statewide honor follows a dominant campaign in which Hilburn guided the Indians to the Class 3 state championship behind a 13-1 overall record. Seneca’s offense was among the most potent in the state, averaging 46.9 points per game and posting an average margin of victory of 28.7 points in its wins.
The championship run produced 10 All-State selections for Seneca, headlined by Hilburn's top coaching nod.
Since taking the helm ahead of the 2021 season, Hilburn has built an area powerhouse. Under his leadership, the Indians boast a 63-12 overall record and have reached three consecutive state title games.
Seneca currently stands at 5-2 on the season and returns to action at home against McDonald County on Friday, Oct. 23.
