Crunch Time Under the Lights: Local Teams Clash for District Seeding

High school football enters the home stretch Friday night across southwest Missouri, with critical conference positioning and district playoff seeding on the line for Week 8.

Kickoffs are slated for 7 p.m. across the area, while one local powerhouse gets a late-season breather before a marquee rivalry showdown.

Here is the Friday night slate for Oct. 16:

  • Neosho at Webb City

The Wildcats hit the road to face the Cardinals at Cardinal Stadium. Webb City looks to assert its ground attack against a Neosho squad fighting for momentum before postseason brackets lock in.

  • Joplin at Willard

The Eagles travel north to take on the Tigers. Joplin aims to sharpen its tempo against a Willard defense that has battled through a demanding Central Ozark Conference schedule.

  • Carthage at Republic

A heavyweight COC matchup features Carthage heading west to take on the Tigers. Both programs rely on disciplined offensive fronts, turning this into a classic trench battle with massive district points at stake.

  • Carl Junction at Bolivar

The Bulldogs make the trek to Bolivar for an Ozark Mountain Conference test. Carl Junction looks to jump out early and disrupt the Liberators on their home turf.

  • New Heights Christian Academy at Drexel with Miami

In eight-man action, the Cougars travel north to Amoret to clash with the Drexel-Miami co-op program in a matchup that rarely lacks offensive fireworks.

Idle this week:

  • Seneca

The Indians take their bye week to rest key starters and heal up. Seneca returns to action next Friday, Oct. 23, hosting McDonald County in a clash between two of the area's top programs.
