Carthage weathers Webb City rally, pushes win streak to five in 5-3 shootout

Carthage struck three times in the opening 20 minutes and held off a late surge from Webb City to lock down a 5-3 conference victory, extending its winning streak to five matches and evening its season record at 9-9.

The Tigers wasted no time seizing control. Relentless offensive pressure overwhelmed the Webb City defense right out of the gate, staking Carthage to a rapid 3-0 cushion before the match was a third of the way through.

They needed every bit of it.

Webb City entered the contest mired in a five-game skid and searching for answers up front, having failed to score more than a single goal per match during that stretch. The Cardinals finally broke loose, finding the net three times to challenge the early deficit.

Carthage never let the equalizer materialize. The Tigers answered the push, generated two more goals to stay out of reach, and closed out the two-goal win. Webb City drops its sixth straight, while Carthage continues its midseason turnaround with five consecutive victories.
